GGS Information Services
Certified to New,
More Stringent, ISO 9001:2000 Quality Standard
Firm becomes one of few
in information services industry to be certified.
YORK, PA – GGS Information Services (GGS),
a leading technical information services company, was recently awarded
certification by the British Standards Institution (BSI) for meeting
all stringent requirements of the International Standards Organization’s
ISO 9001:2000 guidelines for quality performance.
While many companies’ overall adherence
to internationally recognized ISO quality standards, procedures
and documentation has typically resulted in meeting certification
standards know as ‘ISO 9001’ or ‘ISO 9002:1994’,
only about 15% of ISO certified firms have met the new criteria
contained under the quality program’s ISO ‘9001:2000’
Act achieved by GGS and to which all 1994 Act corporations have
until approximately December 15, 2003 to be re-certified, according
to Lloyd Kendall, Executive Vice President and ISO Quality Representative
for the company.
"We at GGS are proud of our accomplishments
in meeting the standards called for under ISO 9001:2000," noted
Paul Kilker, President of GGS. "Our initial certification to
the 1994 standard in March 1999 was a hallmark achievement at the
time. Now, this successful audit demonstrates to our customers that
quality is indeed the primary mission to everyone at GGS –
particularly to companies in the aerospace and transportation equipment
arenas that we serve – most of whom themselves are ISO certified,"
he added.
The newer ISO 9001:2000 statute involves a
process approach to a firm’s quality management system. It
details in written procedures and standards how the company conducts
its daily work activity in terms of processes, workflow and record
keeping. Actual on-site reviews are conducted by an ISO registrar,
who serves as auditor in ensuring that all forms, procedures and
methods used by GGS are actually included within the company’s
main business focus and are part of the company’s formal,
written quality procedures.
Typically up to two ‘compliance audits’
are conduced each year and are required for a firm to maintain its
ISO quality program certification. Additionally, employees are expected
to know the company’s ISO procedures as they relate to their
respective work areas, and the on-site auditor will verify their
knowledge of the quality procedures during his or her audit.
