Leader Wins Prestigious Central Pennsylvania
"Entrepreneur of the Year" Award for 2002
YORK, PA -- Paul Kilker, President of GGS Information
Services of York, was recently awarded the "Entrepreneur of
the Year" Award for Central Pennsylvania for 2002, at an awards
gala held June 19th at the Harrisburg-Hershey Marriott.
The event was sponsored by the accounting firm
of Ernst & Young, the Entrepreneur of the Year Institute, The
NASDAQ Stock Market and USA TODAY. Sponsors of the local competition
included Citizens Bank, the Central Penn Business Journal, Clear
Channel Worldwide, and the Technology Council of Central Pennsylvania.
One of only 43 such regional award competitions
held across the U.S., the annual event recognizes business excellence
in newer and emerging companies and includes the categories of technology
(in which Kilker won), as well as advertising/media, construction,
consumer products, services, entrepreneurship support and telecomm/communications.
The occasion marks the end of an extensive
search to identify and recognize Central Pennsylvanias outstanding
entrepreneurs. "The 2002 award recipients exemplify the spirit
and qualities of leadership, determination, and true entrepreneurial
vision," said Jeff Vrabel, partner with Ernst & Youngs
central Pennsylvania practice.
"The spirit of entrepreneurship is alive
and well in Central Pennsylvania." Central Pennsylvanias
winners are now eligible to participate in the National Entrepreneur
Of The Year awards program, which is designed to honor outstanding
owners of fast-growing companies and supporters of entrepreneurship
in the U.S. The program recognizes entrepreneurs who have demonstrated
excellence and extraordinary success in
such areas as innovation, financial performance, and personal commitment
to their businesses and communities.
The national search will culminate at a black-tie
awards gala in Palm Springs, California, on November 21, 2002, where
national finalists and the Entrepreneur Of The Year award winners
will be announced and celebrated by more than 2,000 attendees. "Our
entrepreneurs are today's pioneers -- the men and women who are
willing to take risks in order to create new and better ways to
do business," said Stephen D. Steinour, Chairman and Chief
Executive Officer of Citizens Bank, a major sponsor of this year's
program.
"Entrepreneurs are a driving force in job creation, economic
expansion and ultimately the vitality and quality of towns and cities,"
Steinour said. "Citizens Bank believes that it is crucial to
encourage, acknowledge and support efforts by these individuals."
The independent panel of judges that selected
